Skylar Weather Terms of Use (interim)
Effective date: October 6, 2026 Interim terms: these terms cover the Skylar Weather test and early-access releases. Full terms will replace them before public launch. We will post the new version here.
These terms are an agreement between you and Skylar Weather LLC, North Carolina, USA ("we", "us"). By using the Skylar Weather app or service ("Skylar"), you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use Skylar.
1. Weather information only
- Skylar gives general weather information: forecasts, alerts, air quality, route weather, activity suggestions and answers to questions.
- Forecasts are predictions, and they are sometimes wrong. Conditions can change quickly and can differ from place to place.
- Do not rely on Skylar for decisions where safety, health, property or money is at stake. For example:
- outdoor work at height
- aviation, boating or marine navigation
- driving in severe weather
- evacuations, medical decisions, or betting and trading
- For official warnings, follow your national weather service and local authorities. In the USA that is the National Weather Service. Skylar may show official alerts, but it is not an official warning service, and it may show them late, incompletely, or not at all.
- In an emergency, call your local emergency number (911 in the USA).
2. AI answers may be wrong
Skylar's chat answers are written by AI models from our forecast data. They can be wrong, incomplete or out of date, even when they sound confident. Check important answers against official sources.
If an answer looks wrong or unsafe, use Report on the answer so we can review it.
3. Your use of Skylar
You agree not to:
- use Skylar for anything unlawful, or to harm or harass anyone;
- send content that is abusive, hateful, sexually explicit or illegal, or that contains other people's personal information, in chat, weather reports or feedback;
- post false weather reports;
- try to get around usage limits, or overload the service;
- reverse-engineer, attack or probe the service, or use another person's device ID;
- present Skylar's content as your own.
Section 4 covers reusing our forecasts and other content.
We may limit, suspend or end access for anyone who breaks these terms. We may also remove weather reports or other content you send.
4. Acceptable use and our content
Our content. This section covers what Skylar itself creates and shows you:
- our forecasts
- our accuracy and verification scores (for example error figures and model rankings)
- our rankings and analysis
- our written wording
- other app content
It is for your personal, non-commercial use.
What you may not do without our written permission:
- scrape, bulk-download or systematically extract our content, including by using our API beyond normal use of the app;
- resell, sublicense or redistribute our content;
- use our content to build, train, calibrate, benchmark or market a competing forecast or weather product, whether paid or free. This includes training or tuning AI models.
What is fine:
- sharing with people you know, for example with the app's share links or screenshots;
- quoting a few of our accuracy figures, with the credit "Source: Skylar Weather".
Public data stays public. Skylar is built partly on public and open data, such as:
- NOAA and National Weather Service observations, forecasts and alerts
- official alerts from other countries' weather services
- open weather-model data, for example from ECMWF
- OpenStreetMap
That data belongs to its providers. It remains available from them under their own terms, and nothing in these terms limits what you can do with it. Where Skylar shows such data unchanged (for example an official warning), the provider's licence applies to it. This section covers only our own forecasts, analysis and presentation.
Enforcement. If you break this section, we may rate-limit, suspend or revoke your access, in addition to our other rights.
5. Content you send
Shared links: Shared links are public: anyone with the link can see the shared forecast snapshot until it expires (90 days) or you delete it. A deleted link may stay visible in caches for up to an hour. Shared snapshots never include your device ID, notes (unless you choose to include them), or precise coordinates (rounded to about 1 km). Share only what you are happy to make public.
You keep any rights you have in what you send us, such as weather reports, notes, feedback and questions. You give us permission to use that content to run and improve Skylar. That includes showing your weather reports, without your device ID, to other users.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data: https://api.skylarweather.com/legal/privacy.
6. Plans and payments
Skylar is free during this release. Paid plans are not available yet, and the app does not take payments.
If we offer paid plans later, their prices, billing, renewal and refund terms will be shown before you buy. Purchases will go through the Google Play or Apple app store, under its terms. A subscription service (RevenueCat) will confirm them for us.
Accounts: the free version of Skylar works without an account. When we add sign-in (planned, through Google Firebase), it will be optional for free use and required for paid plans (Pro and StormTracker), because a purchase is tied to an account. If you sign in, you are responsible for keeping your sign-in secure.
7. Data sources
Skylar uses data from public weather services and other providers, including the US National Weather Service, NOAA and OpenStreetMap contributors. Those sources are credited in the app.
Skylar is not endorsed by these sources.
8. Changes and availability
Skylar is a test or early-access release. Features may change, stop working, or be removed. The service may be unavailable at times.
We may change these terms. We will post changes here and update the date. If you keep using Skylar after a change, you accept the new terms.
9. No warranty
Skylar is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. That includes warranties of accuracy, reliability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Skylar Weather LLC is not liable for:
- indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages
- loss of data, profits or opportunities
This applies to anything arising from your use of Skylar or your reliance on it. Our total liability for any claim about Skylar is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US $50.
Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under laws that cannot be waived.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
