Delete your Skylar Weather data
This page explains how to delete the data that Skylar Weather, run by Skylar Weather LLC, stores about you.
You don't need an account to use the free version of Skylar. Your data is stored under a random device ID that the app creates when it is installed. Deleting your data means we delete everything stored under that ID.
Sign-in (planned) will be optional for free use and required for paid plans (Pro and StormTracker).
Option 1: in the app (fastest)
- Open Skylar Weather.
- Go to Settings → Your data → Delete.
- The app shows what will be deleted. Confirm.
The data is deleted right away, and the app confirms what was removed.
If you want a copy of your data first, use Settings → Your data → Download.
Option 2: by email
If you can't use the app, email [email protected] with the subject "Delete my data".
Include your device ID:
- In the app, go to Settings → Your data.
- Find the row Your device ID. It shows only the first 12 characters.
- Tap the row to copy the full ID. The app shows "Device ID copied".
- Paste the full ID into your email. Once sign-in launches, you can instead write from the email address of your account.
We will delete the data within 30 days and reply to confirm. We can only find your data with your device ID or your account. If we can't identify it, we will tell you. Data from an install you no longer use is removed by the time limits in our Privacy Policy.
What gets deleted
Everything stored under your device ID:
- profile fields you filled in (name, email, phone), if any
- preferences and settings, including any free-text preferences
- saved places
- favorites
- plans and tracked drives
- chat conversations, with every question and answer
- ratings, feedback and reported answers
- weekly usage counts
- weather-alert areas and notification settings
- weather reports you sent (they also disappear for other users)
- requests for new types of weather data
- all of your shared links (a deleted link may stay visible in caches for up to an hour)
- beta tester feedback and screenshots
What is not deleted right away
- Server request logs, which can contain your device ID and the places you asked about, are deleted automatically after about 14 days.
- Diagnostic logs of chat questions and answers: we are setting these to be deleted automatically after 30 days. They carry no device ID, or only a one-way code made from it, so we can't find them by your ID.
- Encrypted nightly backups are deleted after 7 days.
- Statistics with no device ID are not personal data and are kept. An example is how many forecasts were asked for in a roughly 11 km area.
- Outside services follow their own terms for anything they hold:
- Cloudflare, our security and delivery provider, may keep network logs.
- Our AI providers may keep logs for error or abuse investigations (Groq: up to 30 days).
After deletion
If you keep using the app on the same phone, new data starts building up again under the same device ID. To stop all data collection, delete your data and then uninstall the app.
